There are a few issues with the controls in this version, too. Still, it would have been nice to have more options for completing the levels. While this technique still worked in some of the GameCube levels, there were other times when I had to think outside of the proverbial box, creating diversions to lure the guards into a corner before whacking them over the head. One of the best techniques in the Xbox version is to shoot out the overhead lights, then whistle one of the guards over before knocking him out. Sam is also unable to change the lighting in some areas, which changed the gameplay considerably. I'm not sure if this was a bug, or if my perspective was simply a bit off, but it did mean the difference between life and death in certain cases. There were some areas, however, where I thought I was in the shadows, but my light meter told me differently. I noticed that there was a very distinct difference between light and dark areas, while the Xbox game presented it as a more gradual change. One of the biggest changes is in the lighting effects. It's no surprise that the GameCube iteration isn't as nice looking as the Xbox version, but it's a great looking game on its own. While it doesn't add a whole lot to the gameplay, it's interesting to see nonetheless. Another new addition is a screen that comes up at the end of every level, detailing every little statistic you could possibly want, from number of alarms tripped to total mission time to amount of sound created.
It's not very hard, but it does manage to add a bit of tension if you know that guards are nearby. There is a new mini-game that starts when Sam is about to defuse a bomb that is a lot like the lock-picking sequences.
UbiSoft has added quite a few new elements to this iteration of the game, and most of them are good additions. Now, I know it isn't really fair to compare the GameCube version of Pandora Tomorrow to the one gracing the Xbox, but it simply has to be done.
